Champions League Round 4 - Day 2 - Wrap
The second day of round 4 is now over and what do we have? I think the big story, much like Chelsea's failure yesterday, will be Man United's fall at Lille. There is no way Sir Alex can say anything other then that this was a very bad outing for his side. Their defense was hesitant, the midfield could get nothing together and the attackers were just standing around. Man U are in trouble. For Lille, this was only their second ever win in a Champions League game.
Werder Breme was on a wild ride tonight. They were up by 3 and then 10 minutes later, it was tied. They ended up getting the winner in the 67th, but it has to be a little alarming for the side. They got 25 shots with 8 on goal while Udinese only got off 8 shots with 4 on goal (and 3 of those went in). Hard win, but still a win.
Even when the game was only 1-0 in the 80th, Arsenal were in complete control of their game with Sparta Prague. The fact that van Persie added two within 5 minutes of each other just let the scoreboad reflect what was happening on the field.
Ajax must be thrilled with their win over FC Thun. In the 92nd it was still tied 2-2, but Ajax opened up in the last few moments and got two good goals.
Barcelona was just great. They had the ball 70% of the time and limited Panathinaikos to just 1 shot on goal.
Bayern Munich looked a bit stale at times and Juventus found ways of taking advantage of that. Trezeguet was deadly from inside the box. However, Deisler's shot for Bayern from about 40 yards out was solid.
Barcelona and Arsenal will move on to the knockout phase.
