WCQ - September 7, 2005

UEFA (Europe)
Kazakhstan - Greece
Russia - Portugal
Czech Republic - Armenia
Azerbaijan - Austria
Bulgaria - Iceland

Finland - Macedonia
Latvia - Slovakia
Ukraine - Turkey
Malta - Croatia
Belarus - Italy

Faroe Islands - Israel
Lithuania - Bosnia-Herzegovina
Norway - Scotland
Liechtenstein - Luxembourg
Denmark - Georgia

Cyprus - Switzerland
Moldova - Slovenia
Belgium - San Marino
Netherlands - Andorra
Poland - Wales

Hungary - Sweden
Northern Ireland - England
Ireland - France
Spain - Serbia & Montenegro

If Turkey want any hope of getting that second spot in Group 2, they need to pull out a huge win against first place Ukraine. Maybe they will get lucky and catch the Ukrainians hung-over from clinching their spot into the finals, but more then likely it will be a battle. Greece should win an easy match against Kazakhstan to keep the pressure on Turkey.

Russia could end up surprising a lot of people with a win at home against first in the group Portugal. Slovakia should be able to keep their hopes of second with a win over Latvia.

Group 4 might actually become more focused when France travels to Dublin to take on Ireland. If either side can walk away a win, they will be in excellent shape to claim the top spot. However, Switzerland will be looking to make that match meaningless with a win against Cyprus (the Switz still have matches against both France and Ireland). Finally, Israel need to win to keep in the race.

Both England and Poland will want to get an easy win out of their way as they charge toward their final meeting on Oct 12. If either side fails, group 6 might just be decided early.

CONCACAF
Costa Rica - Trinidad & Tobago
Guatemala - United States
Mexico - Panama

Mexico should get the point they need to book their trip, while the US will see what their MLS players can do. The big game will be Costa Rica and Trinidad & Tobago. If T&T can pull off an upset on the road, they will be set to claim either the third direct or the playoff spot. However, if Costa Rica takes it, they should have third all but wrapped up.

Lots of good soccer is going to happen tomorrow so make sure to take some time to enjoy it.
