FIFA orders replay of World Cup playoff
FIFA has ordered a replay of the Uzbekistan-Bahrain Asian playoff match. They took this action due to a bad call by referee Toshimitsu Yoshida.
It seems that he, "disallowed a penalty scored by Uzbekistan's Server Djeparov in the Sept. 3 match because defender Timur Kapadze invaded the box before the penalty was taken.
The referee then awarded a free kick to Bahrain but he should have ordered the penalty retaken, the Asian Football Confederation said in a statement on its Web site."
The second leg of the playoff was to happen tomorrow, but has now been cancelled. The replay will take place on Oct. 8 with the second leg happening on Oct. 12. The winner of this playoff will play aginst the fourth place CONCACAF team for a World Cup birth.
