MLS Week 20 Predictions

DC United vs. Chivas USA
Saturday @ 4:00pm EST
ESPN2, ESPNDep

DC is on a roll. They are the second hottest team in the league right now. Were does Chivas USA stand in the "hot" list? Well they would be right around twelve. On Wednesday night DC showed off how great of a team they can be by manhandling the MetroStars. DC has now won four of their last five matches at home. Chivas has yet to win a road match. I think Chivas is going to keep their streak alive this week.

DC 3 - Chivas 1

FC Dallas vs. New England
Saturday @ 8:30pm EST
Fox Soccer Channel

These two teams last met on July 16th. At the time Dallas was burning up the pitch. In the match, Dallas was up by a goal with just one minute left in regulation. Then the transmission dropped. Taylor Twellman scored two goals (one in the 90th and the other in the final seconds of injury time) to put New England in the winner’s circle. Ever since that match Dallas has gone 0-3-1. The strange thing is that New England has been on a minor slide of their own, going 1-2-0 including a defeat at the hands of Chivas USA. With all that in mind and the fact that Dallas is still looking for their first victory in their new stadium, one has got to go with Dallas. Watch to see how Dallas holds the line at the start of the second half.

Dallas 2 - New England 1

Chicago Fire vs. LA Galaxy
Saturday @ 8:30pm EST

What has happened to these two teams? Chicago was looking great last month at this time, but has gone 0-4-1 in MLS matches since. That looks bad, but then you look at LA. They are 2-6-2 in their last ten with both wins coming off matches against Chivas. Someone has got to pick their self up with this game. Since LA has not won outside of the LA area this whole season and since Chicago has looked at least okay in their last two loses, I'll go with the Fire.

Chicago 3 - LA 2

Real Salt Lake vs. KC Wizards
Saturday @ 9:30pm EST

If you are a Wizards' fan, you have to be happy with their road trip so far. It started off with a 2-1 win against New England last Saturday and was followed up with a come from behind victory against Chicago on Wednesday. Salt Lake, on the other hand, had their hats, shoes and wallets handed to them or violently removed (which every way you think makes more sense) on Wednesday by New England. Also, Salt Lake will still be without Clint Mathis, leaving yet another hole in their lines. The only thing they have going for them is a two game home winning streak.

Salt Lake 0 - KC 3

San Jose Earthquakes vs. Colorado Rapids
Saturday @ 10:00pm EST

Both these teams are playing great soccer at the moment. San Jose is the hottest team in the league going on a 7-1-1 run while outscoring their opponents 17 to 9. Colorado has gone 3-1-1 in their last 5, but that one defeat was to the Quakes. Since the Rapids are 1-7-3 on the road this year (only win was against Chivas) and the Quakes have yet to lose at home, I'm going to go with San Jose with this one.

San Jose 2 - Colorado 0

MetroStars vs. Columbus Crew
Sunday @ 6:00pm EST

The two bottom teams in the East meet to see if either of them have a chance at the playoffs. The Metro's lead the series this season 2-1, but they are coming off a horrible defeat. In addition, Amado Guevara will be out due to his double yellows in their last match. The Crew has looked good since Robert Warzycha took over as interim head coach a month ago (they are 3-1-1 under his watch) including a tie against the Fire and a close defeat by San Jose. If Columbus wants to have any chance at making the playoffs, they must win this game. So how will it go? With both teams needing a win, I think there will be an early goal or two followed by some madness in the second half.

MetroStars 3 - Columbus 2
