US starting lineup for Barbados World Cup Qualifier leg 2

US vs. Barbados
2:55p ET/ 11:55A PT
TV: ESPN classic, Galavision

Less then an hour to go till the US plays their second leg World Cup Qualifier against Barbados and Bob Bradley has released his lineup.

----------------Guzan---------------

Moor--DeMerit--Califf---Pearce

Kljestan-Bradley-Szetela-Lewis (c)

---------Adu---------Beasley--------

This is a very different lineup from last week with only four players starting both games (and only three are in the same position). With DeMerit and Califf taking over the center back and Moor out on the right, Pearce is now the experienced member of the defensive line.

The US will win this game, but expect Guzan to have a little more to do today.

Adu will have a lot of opportunities to open up on the offense front, but will he be able to turn his fancy footwork into goals?

By the way, this is the Word Cup Qualifying debut for Moor, DeMerit, Califf, Klejstan and Szetela.

US starting lineup for 2010 World Cup Qualifer against Barbados

US vs. Barbados
5p ET/2p PT
TV: ESPN2
Internet: ESPN360
Text call: Matchtracker

The US is less then an hour away from starting their long road to South Africa and Bob Bradley has released his lineup. Needless to say, there are a couple surprises. First of all, Guzan will start in goal instead of Tim Howard. Howard suffered a lower back strain in training on Friday.

Another little surprise, Ching is starting up top with Dempsey instead of Johnson. This is a good move, but I thought Bradley would give Johnson yet another chance to get things going. Instead, Ching has his opening to prove that he should get a full more calls. In addition, his ability to play balls in the air give the US something that they've been lacking for a while now.

It looks like Pearce has won the left side back spot with his outstanding play over the last three matches. It also looks like Mastroeni's unjustified red card against Argentina hasn't hurt him in Bradley's eyes.

Anyway, here is the lineup:

----------------------Guzan------------------------

Cherundolo--Onyewu--Bocanegra(c)--Pearce

------------Bradley---------Mastroeni-----------

-------Donovan---------------------Beasley------

-------------Ching-----------Dempsey------------

This is a lineup that should dominate Barbados. If they fail to win by three goals, it will be viewed as a loss.

US starting lineup against Argintina

Here is the official starting lineup:

-----------------Howard---------------

Cherundolo--Califf--Onyewu--Pearce

Dempsey--Bradley--Mastroeni--Beasley

-----Johnson------Donovan (c)---------

Looks like Landon Donovan will get his 100th cap and do it as captain.

My concern with this lineup is the lack of creativity in the midfield. With Michael Bradley playing below his level the last couple matches, he will need to turn it on in order to give Johnson and Donovan something to work with.

On the defensive side of things, Mastroneni could win his way back onto the squad if he plays tough without crap fouls in the midfield while Califf has the chance of a lifetime to make Bob Bradley think about changing his center back duo.

US starting lineup for Spain

Here is the starting lineup for the US Men:

-------------------Howard--------------------

-Cherundolo--Onyewu--Bocanegra--Pearce-

---Dempsey-----Edu----Bradley-----Lewis---

----------Johnson--------------Adu-----------

Subs: DaMarcus Beasley, Frankie Hejduk, Brad Guzan, Josh Wolff, Pablo Mastroeni, Jay DeMerit, Dan Califf

The combination of Johnson and Adu up top will be interesting to see. With Nate Jaqua dropped from the game roster, the only other forward is Josh Wolff.

Edu is going to have his hands full in the center. Lewis must have really impressed Bob Bradley to get the start. Let's just hope he is not the only player that can hold the ball this time around.

US-Poland starting lineup

Here is the official lineup for the US:

-------------------------Howard---------------------------

Cherundolo----Onyewu----Bocanegra (c)-------Pearce

Dempsey------Clark---------Bradley----------Donovan

------------------Ching----------Johnson----------------

Donovan over on the left to help Pearce out is a smart move by Bob Bradley, however it will probably force Donovan into more of a defensive, less wondering style of game.

Ching getting the start, didn't see that one coming. Look for Clark and Bradley to aim more then a few balls in the air his way. It will be interesting to see how the Hawaiian does in the snow of Poland.

US starting lineup for Switzerland

That starting lineup for todays match is out and with the exception of Maurice Edu getting a start, there is really nothing overly surprising about it (actually the Edu start is not a big surprise either). The backline is a return to the 2006 with Bocanegra now holding the role of captain.

Here is the lineup:

Hahnemann

Cherundolo   Onyewu   Bocanegra   Lewis

Edu          Bradley

Feilhaber                                                  Beasley

Twellman                    Dempsey

It will be interesting to see how Twellman and Dempsey play off each other.

US vs. Brazil starting lineup

US MNT vs. Brazil
4pm ET/ 1pm PT
TV: ESPN2
Internet: Text commentary

With an hour till kickoff, here is the US starting lineup:

Howard

Cherundolo     Onyewu     Bocanegra (capt.)     Pearce

Bradley             Feilhaber
Donovan                                                       Beasley
Wolff

Dempsey

Dempsey up top with support from Wolff will be fun to watch. Dempsey has had a great start to his season but this will be his hardest test. He will need good balls from Donovan and Beasley, but if they are forced to track back, he might have to take on a multiple players to make anything happen.

The starters that seem to have the most to prove are Donovan and Bocanegra. Not that they are in any danger of getting dropped from national team duty, but they have not been anywhere near their best of late.

Here is Brazil's lineup:
GK: Doni
D: Maicon, Lucio, Juan, Gilberto
M: Mineiro, Gilberto Silva, Kaka, Ronaldinho, Robinho
F: Afonso

US-Colombia starting lineups

USA (0pts) vs. Colombia (0pts)

The final Copa America match for both these sides is about to kickoff and although it is not important in many ways, this is not a junk match. The US need to get a win out of this to have anything good to say about their trip down south.

Anyway, here are the starting lineups.
USA
GK: Brad Guzan
D: Bobby Boswell, Heath Pearce, Dan Califf, Drew Moor
M: Sacha Kljestan, Kyle Backerman, Ricardo Clark, Justin Mapp
F: Herculez Gomez, Eddie Johnson

Yesterday afternoon Bradley said that no matter what the results from the matches later in the evening, they were not going to cause him to change his lineup. Perhaps that is true, but looking at the list above, I have trouble believing that. If the US still had a chance, would Guzan really be getting the start over Keller? Don't get me wrong, it is great that Guzan is getting the chance but why not just say that if we cannot advance, I will give other people some chanecs?

Anyway, here is Colombia's lineup:
G: Zapata
D: Yepes, Arilaza, Perea, Viafara
M: Castrillion, Torres, Banguero, Zuniga
F: Rodallega, Valoyes

My prediction: USA 1-0 Colombia
The wife's prediction: USA 0-2 Colombia

USA - Argentina starting lineup

The lineups are out and here they are:

USA
G: Kasey Keller
D: Marvell Wynne, Jimmy Conrad, Jonathan Bornstein
M: Benny Feilhaber, Ben Olsen, Ricardo Clark, Justin Mapp
F: Eddie Johnson, Taylor Twellman
No real surprises here. Olsen and Clark are going to be busy. Twellman and Johnson could earn a lot of respect if they find a way through the Argentina back line.

Argentina
G: Abbondanzieri
D: Ayala, Heinze, Zanetti, Milito
M: Riquelme, Mascherano, Cambiasso, Veron
F: Crespo, Messi

The game kicks off at 8:45pm ET and will air on GolTv and TeleFutura (Spanish). You can also find a text play by play on US Soccer's match tracker.

USA-Canada Starting lineups

The linups are out and they are interesting.

USA
GK: Keller
D: Hejduk, Onyewu, Bocanegra, Bornstein
M: Donovan, Bradley, Mastroneni, Beasley
F: Dempsey, Johnson
Keller gets his 100th cap with this one. Donovan will play behind Dempsy and Johnson. The new lineup pushes Donovan back to the right side on midfield and puts Dempsey behind Johnson. Backline is much the same.

Canada
GK: Onstad
D: Stalteri, Hainault, Hastings, Jazic
M: Bernier, Hutchinson, Nash, DeGuzman
F: DeRosario, Gerba
I think that some of those midfielders might be listed incorrectly (ie, how they were posted on the Canadian roster), but that is what the list is currently saying. Here is the real lineup, although it would have been fun to see Gerba on defense. This is the same XI that beat Guatemala.

Should make for some fun play.

US-Panama starting lineups

The game is just 20 minutes away and we have the lineups. Here there are:

USA
GK: Tim Howard
D: Jonathan Bornstein, Carlos Bocanegra, Oguchi Onyewu, Frankie Hejduk
M: Michael Bradley, Pablo Mastroeni, DaMarcus Beasley, Landon Donovan
F: Taylor Twellman, Clint Dempsey
This is almost the exact same lineup as their opener against Guatemala except Mastroeni is in the middle instead of Benny Feilhaber. Bradley, Mastroeni and Onyewu are riding cards.

Panama
GK: Jaime Penedo
D: Carlos Rivera, Luis Moreno, Amilcar Henriquez, Felipe Baloy
M: Victor Herrera, Engin Mitre, Juan Perez, Ricardo Phillips, Manuel Torres
F: Blas Perez
Looks like Panama is going to try to force the issue in the middle. Mastroeni will have to have a good match to overcome all that Panama is going to throw at him.

This game will air love on Fox Soccer Channel (English), Univision (Spanish) or on the internet via text updates on the US Soccer MatchTracker.

US-El Salvador starting lineups

US MNT (6pts) vs. El Salvador (3pts)
7pm ET - TV: Fox Soccer Channel (Eng), TeleFutura (Spanish)
Online text play by play at Matchtracker

The list is out and here are the starting XI for each side:

US
--------------Tim Howard--------------
Spector--Parkhurst--Onyewu--Bornstein
------Bradley-- Mastroeni--Feihaber-----
--------Beasley-------Donovan---------
---------------Dempsey--------------

Mastroneni is back in the lineup after missing time for his Italian red card. Dempsey moves up top as the point man for Donovan and Beasley.

El Savador
--------------Montes---------------
Guevara--Henriquez--Esobar--Pacheco
--------------Carballo----------------
-Martinez---Alas---Sanchez--Cerritos-
--------------Campos--------------

El Savador goes heavy on defense. The US should own the middle of the field with this setup but can they beat the bunker?

US-Guatemala starting lineups

The lists are out and here they are.

US
F: Clint Dempsey, Taylor Twellman
M: De Marcus Beadley, Michael Bradley, Landon Donovan, Benny Feihaber
D: Oguchi Onyewu, Jonathan Bornstein, Carlos Bocanegra, Frankie Hejduk
GK: Tim Howard

Twellman gets the start, biggest shock of the whole list. Donovan playing a little deeper is a smart move.

Guatemala
F: Carlos Ruiz, Marvin Avila
M: Carlos Quinones, Rigoberto Gomez, Jose Contreras, Leonel Noriega
D: Claudio Albizuris, Gustavo Cabrera, Henry Media, Pablo Melgar
GK: Ricardo Trigueno

Two forwards, maybe they are not going to play as much of a bunker game as we thought.

The game starts in 15 minutes on Fox Soccer Channel and Telefutura.

US v Guatemala starting lineup

US MNT vs. Guatemala
Tonight, 9pm ET
TV: ESPN2

The starting lineup for tonight's US match is out and here it is:

GK: Kasey Keller
D: Jonathan Spector, Jimmy Conrad, Jay DeMerit, Frank Simek
M: Clint Dempsey, Benny Feihaber, Michael Bradley, Justin Mapp
F: Eddie Johnson, Landon Donovan

Both DeMerit and Simek are getting their first caps.

My guess was way off in the middle and I got both forwards wrong. I'm surprised that Mapp got the start over Beasley, but it is fully justified. Bees came to life towards the end of his time in Sunday's match, but overall, it was not a good afternoon for him. Giving Mapp a chance is a great move by Bob Bradley.

I'm a little surprised that Cooper did not get a start, but I guess Bob wants to see if Johnson can continue to improve with Donovan as his partner and with Michael Bradley and Feihaber giving him support.

Here is Guatemala's lineup:
GK: Ricardo Trigueno
D: Pable Melgar, Henry Medina, Gustavo Cabrera, Claudio Albizuris
M: Jose Contreras, Carlos Figueroa, Freddy Thompson, Carlos Quinonez, Leonel Noriega
F: Carlos Ruiz

Not unexpected for Guatemala. Ruiz will have a difficult task ahead of him tonight.

US-Ecuador starting lineups

US vs. Ecuador
12 noon ET, Today
TV: ESPN2

The starting lineups have been released and it looks like Bradley is bringing together the core of last year's World Cup mixed with a few 'new' folks.

Here is the lineup:
GK - Tim Howard
D - Carlos Bocanegra, Steve Cherundolo, Jimmy Conrad, Oguchi Onyewu
M - Clint Dempsey, Benny Feihaber, DaMarcus Beasley
F - Eddie Johnson, Landon Donovan, Brian Ching

A quick lineup of who needs to prove the most:
Lots to prove
Benny Feihaber - First cap so he needs to prove he can handle himself, he will see much more national team time.
DaMarcus Beasley - Real bad year that has seen him lose his brilliance. If he doesn't start rebuilding soon, he might not see many more camps.
Brian Ching - Can he really do it outside of MLS?
Eddie Johnson - Same problem Eddie has had for almost 2-years, he is missing that killer touch he once had. If it returns, so will all the praise because who doesn't like Johnson?

A bit to prove
Tim Howard - With Keller saying he still wants to be the number one, he needs to prove that he is the better, and younger, option.
Landon Donovan - Okay, he had a good performance against Mexico, but he needs to show that he is not a one team player.
Jimmy Conrad - Much like Donovan, he needs to prove that his strong game against Mexico had more to do with talent then a rivalry.

Little to prove
Oguchi Onyewu - However, if he wants to be considered for the captain's armband, he needs to show his leadership capabilities.
Carlos Bocanegra - Having a good year with Fulham, and is all but a US nat lock
Steve Cherundolo - Still an important part of Hannover 96, and will have a US spot till he fails.
Clint Dempsey - He has star status. His game against Mexico was not that great, but with more training time, ie less jet lag, he should be able to be the player we all know him to be.

Now what about the Ecuador lineup?

Here it is:
GK - Rorys Aragon
D - Ivan Hurtado, Ulises De La Cruz, Segundo Caicedo, Giovanny Espinoza, Neicer Reasco
M - Edison Mendez, Luis Valencia, Luis Caicedo
F - Felipe Caicedo, Carlos Tenorio

With all the defense in play, this will force the US strikers to do something they are not good at, act fast on the ball in the box (think back to the World Cup send off match against Morocco). If Johnson, Ching, Donovan and anyone else want to make a name today, they are going to need great first touches with wonderful, quick, reaction shots.

Prediction: US 2-1 Ecuador
