It will be the San Jose Earthquakes
David Alioto, executive vice president of Earthquakes Soccer LLC, ended speculation over the name of the team from San Jose this past weekend when he told a group of 100 Earthquake fans that any new club would have the old one's title. He said they looked at other names but the history of the former 'Quakes franchise was just too strong for them to go with another.
Alioto also threw a punch at the local daily paper, the Mercury News, for their negative reporting on the failed stadium talks with San Jose State saying, "sometimes the best deal you make is the deal you don't make." As far as the new stadium, it will be like nothing else in MLS and the organization has already lined up sponsors for new youth facilities around Northern California. He also encouraged all supporters to let the city council know they want the team back.
