US Open Cup Round Four Wrap

Round four of the Open Cup can be called the MLS round after all non-MLS teams were knocked out.

Houston Dynamo 4-2 Carolina Dynamo

The Houston Dynamo got things started by knocking off the Dynamo of Carolina, however Carolina gave them a run for it. Houston was up by three by the 58th, but by the 71st, Carolina had pulled within one thanks to goals by Wells Thompson and Randy Paterson. But Houston was able to stand tough and get their fourth goal in the 82nd. Even though Carolina made a game of it, they were out shot 19-5.

Charleston Battery 3-3 FC Dallas
FC Dallas wins 5-3 on Penalty Kicks

If any FCD fans do not love Kenny Cooper after this match then they never will. Cooper got all three goals including one in the 120th minute. He also got the fourth penalty kick. It is because of Cooper that FCD are in the quarterfinals of the 2006 Open Cup.

Rochester Rhinos 0-0 New England Revolution
Revolution win 5-4 on Penalty Kicks

Whenever these two teams meet, it's a good outing. New England were playing with most of their A team, but Dempsey was not in the lineup. Their defense was good, but just like in MLS matches, their offense was a bit lacking. When it all came down to it, the game was decided when the Rhinos' Frankie Sanfilippo sent his seventh shot over the crossbar. Still, the Revs are lucky to advance.

Wilmington Hammerheads 1-2 New York Red Bulls

The Red Bulls took the lead in the fourth minute and held it for 80-minutes till Ryan Miller equalized it for Wilmington. But the Hammerheads did not get to celebrate for long as just one minute later, Jordan Cila got the winner for New York. In all, there were only 7 shots on goal with New York getting just three of them.

Real Salt Lake 0-1 Colorado Rapids

Real dominated this match everywhere except the score line. They were playing a good game, controlling the ball, but could not beat Rapids' goaltender Matt Jordan. Jordan stopped all seven shots Real had on goal. For Colorado, Clint Mathis got some more revenge on his former team as he setup the game winner by Jacob Peterson.

Chicago Fire - Kansas City Wizards
Game postpone due to weather

The quarterfinals will take place on August 23rd.
