Real Salt Lake gets their bill passed

Update of this story here.

The Utah state legislature has passed a bill that will allow for the 1.25% hotel tax to continue.

This tax first became law last year, but was limited to 10-years and only available to Salt Lake County. This new bill eliminates the termination date and allows all counties in the state to apply the tax provided monies raised go to tourism projects.

This tax is now awaiting the signature of the governor, which is expected. Once it becomes law, Real would like Salt Lake County to provide $34 million for the new stadium plus $7 million related to city and county property taxes on the site in Sandy. Real would provide the other $104 million for building the soccer facilities.

It looks like Real Salt Lake is going to have their new home in Sandy after all.
