The biggest surprise out of this bunch has got to be the trashing Germany received in Italy. This kind of result is not going to calm fears that coach Juergen Klinsmann knows what he is doing.

A much smaller surprise is France's defeat by Slovakia, their first since Euro 2004. England needed a 93rd minute strike to beat Uruguay and Turkey got two goals in two minutes by Umit Karan to tie the Czech Republic.
