Claudio Reyna is back

US captain Claudio Reyna return to action with his club Manchester City yesterday, playing 81 minutes of the team's 2-1 victory over Sunderland. The midfielder had not played for the top team since breaking his ankle during a match on December 26th.

City scored two goals in the first 10 minutes, allowing Reyna to take a more defensive position in the midfield. This defensive positioning probably allowed him to stay in the match a little longer then he would have if he were attacking. Still, by the 81st, he looked tired. All and all, for having missed nine weeks due to the injury, Reyna looked good.

His return to play must be wonderful news for Bruce Arena. As was shown during last week's match with Poland, the US needs Reyna to control the midfield. His calm and ability to hold the ball are attributes that will serve the US well in Germany. Yes, he might not be as fast as some of his teammates, but his skill more then makes up for any speed deficit.
