Are the MetroStars about to get their wings?

It appears the MetroStars are about to get a new owner, their third in 11 years.

Red Bull, makers of the energy drink of the same name, have been in talks with current owner Anschutz Entertainment Group (AEG) about buying the club. Red Bull already owns a club in the Austrian First Division. When they purchased the team last year, they changed the name from SV Wüstenrot Salzburg to Red Bull Salzburg. Indications are that they would do the same thing with the MetroStars.

The more owners invested in the league, the better the change of future success, but is the league really ready for Red Bull New Jersey? Say what you will about some of the team names in the league, but none of them are a direct advertisement for a product* and there is something to be said about that.

Anyway, they are hoping to have this deal inked by the start of the season. In the deal, AEG will retain the rights to the club's proposed stadium in Harrison, NJ.

Let the naming war begin.

* I understand that the team themselves are the product.
