Lalas - Beckham causing problems for LA plus new team logo

LA Galaxy president and general manager Alexi Lalas has admitted that David Beckham is causing some problems for the team, but not the type that Santino Quaranta suggested yesterday. Instead he feels the main issue is with expectations.
“We are going to win with David Beckham and we are going to lose with David Beckham. We will not win every single game and he is not going to score five goals every single game. People will appreciate just watching him live and seeing why he is such a great player.”
This gets to the big question that has been hovering around this move since it was announced, will the non-soccer mad American public take the time to figure out Beckham's strengths or will they just ask 'where are all the goals?' This will taking so teaching on the part of broadcasters and writers but one of the best analogies I've seen is that he is like a quarterback in American football. Seldom does he actually get the touchdown but he is the one who puts the ball in the correct place to make it happen.

Anyway, Lalas did echo a bit of what Quaranta sad, but spun it in a much better way:
“Without a doubt, the pressure has been ratcheted up since the announcement,” Lalas said. “The eyes of the world are upon us now, and we want to make sure we use that to our gain. It’s all been crazy — but a good crazy.”

Just three more days till he is officially a member of the Galaxy. Let the fun begin.

In other LA Galaxy news, what about that new logo. Yes, it has been floating around the internets for a little while now, but I thought why not comment on it. So set your phasers to stun and turn the engines to warp factor 9 as you make your way to Star Fleet Academy LA. I'm not knocking it but it does seem a little Star Trek inspired.

star trek inspired? hmm not really its got a European football look by using the shield crest. I quite like it coming from a "soccer" nation myself.

I was talking more about the color choice and the star in the middle. That said, I highly doubt whoever designed this looked at the Star Trek crest at any point, but it is interesting to me how much they do look a like.

For me, and all the folks at http:thenamelessthing.com, AKA my blog, Beckham is a gifted set-piece player, but unfortunately he has fallen foul of the spider he calls a wife - Posh. It is no surprise that she is launching the Spice Girls reunion right as Golden B******s reaches his Golden State, and to see her basking in the relentless flashbulbs of what passes for the paparazzi in California was an ugly sight. For some reason, the English have endured a pitiful love affair with America's warmer climes, and appear to be thoroughly convinced that a paradise of some kind lurks among the avenues, back streets, pools, and billboards of that vacuous and gorgeous place we call LA.
Beckham operates like a well-oiled machine, and I believe the cogs have a long way to go yet, before they finally give up. His youthful commitment to set-piece perfection, the 99% perspiration and the 1% inspiration (with Posh cracking the lash every millimetre of the way) paid off, big time, and it was a great example of a simple lad from London come good. The way he could place his crosses on the rising head of Dwight Yorke was a joy to behold, and his free-kick against Greece at Old Trafford, which saw England qualify for the World Cup, truly crowned a somewhat underachieving international career. But the latest incarnation of the Beckham machine is a little disoriented, not least from being where it is. I hope we see the machine right itself and somehow, someway, come up with some funky stuff to blow us all away.
