Thursday Night Soccer - Colorado vs. Houston
Colorado Rapids (4-3-3) vs. Houston Dynamo (3-5-1)
9:15pm ET
TV: ESPN2
In the category of 'worst scheduled match ever' we have tonight's ESPN2 show down between the Colorado and Houston. Just about everyone knows by now that this one will start at just about the same time as the US men begin their Gold Cup campaign in LA (it would have started at the same time but ESPN is delaying it 15-minutes because they are going to show the first part of the NBA finals on all their networks), so who knows how many eyes will actually watch their broadcast.
Anyway, Houston finally got back to their winning ways last weekend when they knocked off FC Dallas, but they are going to be without a number of players due to the Gold Cup. Colorado will miss Roberto Brown and the offensive power he gives them (even if he never moves), but with Herculez Gomez coming into form, it might not be much of a big deal after all. Colorado has looked ugly of late yet they still get points. They should have everything they need to overtake Houston at home, but I just don't think the Rapids will be able to pull it together.
Zach Wells showed himself to be a wonderful keeper during the Dynamo's Concacaf Champions' Cup run, and he should be able to control the Rapids. With De Rosario, Ching and Dalglish unavailable, Houston will need to dig deep for their offensive spark. However, with the Dynamo's offense playing the way it has been, some digging can't be much worse then what they have had.
