Gold Cup Day 6 - Group A final matches preview
Group A finishes up their matches today and with every team still in the race for a quarterfinal spot, it should be a good evening of soccer. A reminder that the top two spots in the group advance. The third place team has a chance to advance depending on the status of the third place teams in groups B & C. Chances are good that if a team gets 4 points, they will advance, but three might be enough depending on the other groups.
Costa Rica (1pt) vs. Guadeloupe (4pts)
7pm ET/4pm PT - TV: Galavision
Los Ticos find themselves in an unexpected place as they sit at the bottom of Group A and needing a win to keep their hopes of advancing alive. Guadeloupe is shaping up to be the Panama '05 of this year's contest as their status as an unknown in combination with their good defense as allowed them to frustrate opponents, allowing them to slip balls back behind their lines. Look for Costa Rica to push forward heavy in search of an early goal and then go into a bunker backfield.
Predictions: Me Costa Rica 1-1 Guadeloupe, Wife Costa Rica 2-0 Guadeloupe
Haiti (2pts) vs. Canada (3pts)
9pm ET/6pm PT - TV: Galavision
Haiti has been very disappointing so far as they have not shown and real consistency in attack and often miss balls on defense. Canada looked very good in their opener against Costa Rica but sank a bit against Guadeloupe. They won balls in the middle but had very little pressure up top. Pat Onstad is coming back in for goalkeeping duties tonight which is good because Greg Sutton looked a step off on Saturday (might be due to the concussion). This one will get physical, which would seem to favor Haiti but Canada could turn it against them by getting them into card trouble early.
Predictions: Me Haiti 1-2 Canada, Wife Haiti 1-1 Canada
