MLS mid-Week 28 Recap

Last night was a perfect summary of Real Salt Lake's first year. They played well, had moments of strength and kept the visitors to only one shot on frame. However, just like everything else, that one shot on frame was enough to allow Colorado to get all three points. Melvin Tarley, Andy Williams and Clint Mathis all had good opportunities in the first half for Real, but thanks to Rapids keeper Joe Cannon, none of them found net. These three kept it up in the second half, but still could not finish one off. Then Rapids coach Fernando Clavijo changed things up by bringing in some attackers. First came Jeff Cunningham, then Sasha Gotsmanov and finally Fabrice Noel. These three took the heat off Cannon and placed it on Real's backline. Still, with five minutes left, they had yet to hit a shot on target.

But then it happened. Noel was able to sneak around his mark in the box and Cunningham dropped the ball in for him. With a bit of a swagger, Noel angled it into goal. This late goal was all the Rapids needed as they walked away with three points, the Rocky Mountain Cup and a tie with LA for the third spot in the West. For Real, they just get to walk away. They end the season with 20 points, but they might fall to last in the West if Chivas pulls off a surprise against the MetroStars on Sunday.

Real 0 - 1 Colorado
