MLS mid-Week 28 Predictions

Real Salt Lake vs Colorado Rapids
9:30pm EST

Real Salt Lake finish up their first season tonight. After the big announcement of their new stadium this morning (starting in 2008), Real should be fired up (or as fired up as they can get). In addition, they are coming off a surprise tie in San Jose where they scored two late goals to earn their first point in two months. I'm going to guess that they would love to end their season with some more points (if they win, then they do not have to worry about Chivas winning and pushing Real into the basement). However, they will be without Eddie Pope, Gustavo Cabrera and Robert Scarlett due to international duties.

For Colorado, a win might allow them to end up in third place and avoid a first round playoff against San Jose. The Rapids have not lost in five games, but also have not looked so hot in their last two (0-0 to Dallas on Saturday and 1-1 to Chivas last Wednesday). However, knowing that this could move them up in the standings should motivate them.

Also, this game will decide the winner of the first Rocky Mountain Cup. It would be one good thing for Real to point to after what has been a very difficult first season. However, without Jason Kreis, Salt Lake has looked like garbage. I think they will look better tonight, but it will not be enough for them to overcome Dedi Ben-Dayan, Jeff Cunningham and the rest of the Rapids.

Real Salt Lake 1 - Colorado Rapids 3

One final note, this might be Clint Mathis's final match in Salt Lake (and perhaps the MLS). How will he go out?
