Ronaldo to become a Red Bull?

Goal.com reports that the Reds of New York are interested in bringing Ronaldo (pictured) to America's shores.

"Red Bull is committed to dramatically upgrading this team, and that means bringing the best players in the world to New York," said Red Bull New York President and General Manager Alexi Lalas to Goal.com. "If Ronaldo is such a player, then you can bet he's a target."

All right, great. MLS is about to get an international super star still in good shape. Wait, what was Lalas's last line.

"It's all long term thinking."

Ronaldo is under contract with Real Madrid till 2008 but has stressed his unhappiness with this situation. Coming to MLS at the end of that contract would make sense, but coming now, um, not so. Unless MLS is ready to drastically increase their salary cap, El Fenomeno will not be in New York for a while.

If he signs with a new team this summer, that while might be more then just two years.

There's no way Ronaldo would come the MLS. I think he'll stay with Madrid or move to the EPL or back to Inter. But indeed, he does come to the MLS, I'll by season ticket for his home team.
