Canada beats Brazil

Canada beat Brazil 4-2 today to advance to Peace Queen Cup final on Saturday.

Goals by Martina Franko and Randee Hermus put Canada, ranked 10th in the world, up by two goals after only seven minutes. Brazil, ranked No. 4 and silver medalists at the 2004 Athens Olympics, tallied six minutes later, but Canada scored two more goals to take a 4-1 lead going into halftime.

Captain Christine Sinclair, a nominee for FIFA's World Player of the Year award, scored her tournament leading sixth goal in the 28th minute before Wilkinson added another for Canada in the 34th minute.

Nilda scored a late goal for Brazil with four minutes left in regulation.

Canada will face the winner of Group B, which could be the US, Denmark or Australia. All three of these teams play tomorrow.
