So long Sarachan - Chicago fires coach
In a move that is not very shocking, the Chicago Fire dumped coach Dave Sarachan today. With the team going just 1-6-1 in their last eight and being outscored 17-7 in the process, the club's owners decided a change was needed.
Sarachan is only the second coach in the club's history. He took over after the 2002 season when former coach Bob Bradley left to take the reins of the then New York MetroStars. During his time he has a 55-50-31 record that included two US Open Cup titles (2003,2006), one Supporters' Shield (2003) and one appearance in the MLS Cup (2003).
The team has named Denis Hamlett as their interim coach. Their next MLS match is not till July 1 at home against Colorado, however they play a friendly Friday night against Cracovia.
