2007 MLS Week 1 Predictions

Just one more hour till the 2007 MLS season begins. With that in mind, here are the wife's and my predictions for this weekend's action.

DC United vs. Colorado Rapids
3:30pm ET
TV: ABC

United has already played four meaningful matches in the Champions' Cup, so they should be a bit more settled then the Rapids. It should be fun, but in the end, DC will be just a bit too much for the Rapids and their new stadium.
Predictions: Me DC 2-1 Colorado, the wife DC 1-0 Colorado

FC Dallas vs. Real Salt Lake
6:00pm ET
TV: Direct Kick, MLStv

I might be wrong, but I think this is the first time FCD has opened up a season on the road. Dallas will suffer from lapses in the backline, however the good news for them is Real will not be on the part of the pitch very often.
Predictions: Me FCD 2-0 RSL, the wife FCD 2-0 RSL

New York Red Bulls vs. Columbus Crew
7:00pm ET
TV: DK, MLStv, HDnet

The first full season of the Bruce Arena begins at long last. Will Reyna be a force, can Mathis not be a head case, and will Todd Dunivant recover from last season? On the other side of the ball, for the first time in almost a year, we'll see a Crew team with less then half their starting players on the injury list.
Predictions: Me NY 0-1 CC, the wife NY 1-0 CC

New England Revolution vs. Chicago Fire
8:30pm ET
TV: DK, MLStv

When these two teams faced off in the first round of last year's playoffs, it was some of the best soccer of the season. With a number of starting players out for NE, I don't think this match will reach the same level. Chicago will exploit the confusion that is the current Revolution.
Predictions: Me NE 1-3 Chicago, the wife NE 1-0 Chicago

Toronto FC vs. Chivas USA
10:30pm ET
TV: Fox Soccer Channel, FSE

Ten years ago, who would have ever thought we would see a team from Canada play a team so aligned with Mexico in an American soccer league? Time will tell if this is a good thing or not, but for now, it is at least interesting. Toronto will surprise Chivas with better then expected play and walk out with their first point.
Predictions: Me Toronto 2-2 Chivas, the wife Toronto 0-1 Chivas

LA Galaxy vs. Houston Dynamo
Sunday - 7:00pm ET
TV: TeleFutura

Life will actually take us to Houston tomorrow, so we will get to see this game in person, which is good because I think it will be the best game of the weekend. Much like DC, Houston has already played four meaningful games and will bring good form. They might get a bit tired down the stretch but should be in better game shape then LA. I think this will become a bit of a shootout with Houston out lasting the Galaxy.
Predictions: Me LA 2-3 Houston, the wife LA 0-2 Houston

Odd team out - Kansas City Wizards who open up their season next Saturday in DC.

Other predictions, attendance will be up about 5% over last season's start, however fewer goals will be scored.
