US Women in action this weekend plus Friday MLS matches
The US Women's soccer team will start their run up to World Cup 2007 this Saturday in Blaine, Minn. Sweden is the team they will try to take down. It should be a fine display of good soccer. The match will air live on ESPN2 at 6pm ET.
Over in the MLS, New York and Colorado will play a Friday afternoon game at 2pm ET. Later Friday night, New England welcomes Real Salt Lake to town (7:30pm ET). Both New York and Real need to make something happen in these matches if they want to have a chance at saving their season. In the MLS, nobody is really out of it till the last six games or so, but if these two don't start soon, it might never happen.
On Saturday, Chicago will see if they can regain their home form as FC Dallas comes to town. (4pm ET - ESPN2) Dallas will be without Ruiz, so this will a hard road test for the team. DC welcomes the Crew to RFK (7:30pm ET). With just one defeat this whole year, I don't think the Crew will walk away with three points. However, DC played a game on Wednesday against Celtic, so they might be tired.
Later in the evening, Houston goes to KC (8:30pm ET). Houston is playing some good soccer right now, but at some point, KC is going to make a move. This could be their start. Finally, LA travels all the way to Chivas land (10pm ET), as the two stadium mates do reignite their war. LA has been a team on a mission since Landon got back, while Chivas just lost to a bunch soft irons in Dallas Roma FC. This one will be good, but LA will win it in the end.
Not as great as a World Cup weekend of soccer, but still a fun one.
