Mid-week 22 recap

Here is the short version of anything you might read about last night's DC-Real Salt Lake match, DC stomped them.

For the first few minutes, it looked like it was going to be a balanced affair with both sides having good chances on goal during the opening 10 minutes, but then DC took over. When Real's keeper Jay Nolly took out a breaking Christian Gomez earning the home side a pk that Jaime Moreno (pictured) hit home for his 89th career MLS goal. Even though they did not score for the next 30 minutes, it was still DC's game. Real's one big chance came off a Clint Mathis free kick that hit the crossbar and landed right at Eddie Pope's feet in front of an open net. However, Pope fired quickly and the shot went over the net. The half ended with a dizzying 30-yard bullet from DC's Freddie Adu. DC was up 2-0 at the half.

Melvin Tarley was able to cut the lead in half when he beat United's charging keeper to get his first MLS goal. This was the high moment for Salt Lake. In the 63rd, Gomez took a rebound off of a Nolly block and slipped it into the net. In the 78th, Moreno earned his 90th MLS goal thanks to a perfect lateral pass from Joshua Gros and in the 86th, Jamil Walker finished the blowout with a nice strike off a Clyde Simms pass. DC 5 - Real 1

I also must point out that DC must be very happy that Bobby Boswell's two game streak of own-goals is over. Way to go Bobby! Seriously, this was a great night for any DC fans out there (including the 11,455 that made it to RFK).

My Guess vs. Final Score
Game (my guess) Final score
